Ms. Hays' 3rd Grade class
Hello! Welcome to our 3rd Grade class page!
Hello, all! We are currently studying fractions in math and there are SEVERAL websites that promote learning in a fun way! We have been using ABC Ya!, Math Playground, and Moby Max in our classroom. This allows students to practice at their own pace while still learning the key components of the material. Feel free to use these websites at home as an added bonus to their continued daily learning!

Hello, parents! Today we are starting our President Project with 2nd grade! We are SO excited to be working with 2nd grade for this project and cannot wait to get started! Students will be coming home with a packet containing all the required information for the project, the description of the project, and the rubric on which they will be graded. We are also sending home a list with the order of presentations that will be presented on Monday, March 6, 2017 starting at 8:45 AM. Please feel free to come and watch your student and their peers present their project and all the hard work I know they are going to put forth!
Hello, parents! Now that we have gone through both of our chapters focusing mainly on division and multiplication, we have started timed tests! Students experienced their first timed test last week over mulitples of 1. The students and I set the minimum to pass the test at 30/60 correct. There are 60 problems, using the digits 0-9, and I give the students 60 seconds to take the test. Each time they pass a test, they will receive a sticker to add to the Timed Test chart and go to the next multiple (x1, x2, x3, etc.). On our first timed test, we had almost all of the students pass! Only a handful will be taking the test again to practice those facts. I have full confidence that everyone will be able to get through their timed tests in order to prepare them for fourth grade and to have their facts memorized! Feel free to practice at home with flash cards or by "googling" or creating your own timed tests!
Just a reminder that Parent-Teacher Conferences are this week!
Conferences are: Wednesday 12:30-5:00 PM Thursday 3:30-7:00 PM Monday 3:30-5:00 PM Hope to see you there! Today we had some VERY special guests come into our class! The fire department came to talk to us about Fire Safety and did a wonderful presentation with the class on preventing fires in the house or what to do in case of a fire. Students were very involved in the presentation and had LOTS to say! It was wonderful to see them so engaged in the presentation and being able to share their prior knowledge with the firemen! Be sure to ask your student what they learned today during the presentation and ways to stay safe from fires!Last week, one of our friends brought in caterpillar chrysalis to share with the class! We have been anxiously awaiting for them to hatch and when we came in this morning, they were beautiful! Three out of our four have hatched; the last one should be joining us sometime within the next day or two. Our butterflies have been transferred to our "Butterfly Tent" and we are able to enjoy their beauty and observe throughout the day! Pop in to take a peek if you would like! I am SO excited for this school year! Our first week back to school so far has been incredible and the students are working so hard! I cannot believe the amount of energy that the students bring to the room and all of the ideas they have to share with each others; it's so wonderful! This school year is going to be full of learning, growing, and reaching our dreams! This week we created our Hopes and Dreams banners to hang up in the room to always remind us of the goals that we have set for ourselves and what we want to accomplish. I can see the potential each student in the class holds and know that our dreams are going to come true!
Today we celebrated our "Third Day of Third Grade" by doing fun classroom activities! We were able to make clocks representing 3:00, count by 3's up to 100, write a "Fun Fact List" about ourselves with three examples under different topics, and more! It was a good way to break up our week and add a little "fun" to the end of summer and beginning of the school year! |
